Sophos policy not updating
It never goes to "Not responding" (though I can force it to from Task Manager)... I've tried reducing the quality settings, turned off things like sound, clipboard, printer sharing, etc. But here's the strange thing: it works with the few remaining Server 2003 R2 servers (I know, I know... I'm prompted for credentials, I enter my domain credentials, and click "Connect".
It reports "Configuring remote session" and the five dots march across the screen indefinitely.
In some organizations, the use of USB-devices (flash drives, USB HDD, SD cards and so on) is disabled for safety reasons to prevent security leakage and virus infection.
This article will tell how to disable the use of external USB-drives, prevent writing to them or run executable files using group policies (GPO).
Please contact the IT helpdesk at x4357 or [email protected] someone from the IT division can assist you.
To determine if you are fixed, first reboot your computer.
In order to run this utility you must install IBM Tivoli Endpoint Management (Big Fix), which is available Sorry, your out of luck.
In a GPO that applies to that computer, add the following setting: After you set that (and allow the GPO to replicate if you're in a multi-DC environment), do a "gpupdate /force /boot" on the subject PC.
It will reboot and you should see the software installation occur.
To do it, open the GPO management console (gpmc.msc), right-click on OU Workstations and create a new policy (Create a GPO in this domain and Link it here.) In our case, we want to disable USB-drives on the computer level so we need the second section. In Removable Storage Access section, there are some policies allowing to turn off the use of different types of storage devices — CD/DVDs, FDD, USB-devices, tapes and so on.
The “strongest” lockout policy — All Removable Storage Classes: Deny All Access – allows to deny the access to all types of external storage devices. After enabling and updating the policy on customer computers ( In this policy section, more flexible restriction to use external USB-drives can be configured.
